Celebrating 53 Years of Adventure: The Cardiff BSAC Journey

This week marks an incredible milestone for our community as we celebrate 53 years of Cardiff BSAC! Since our doors first opened in 1973, our branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club has been a cornerstone for ocean lovers, thrill-seekers, and anyone looking to explore the hidden worlds beneath the waves.

For over five decades, our mission has remained unchanged: to share our passion for the underwater world and safely train the next generation of scuba divers.

From 1973 to Today: A Legacy of Training

When we started back in 1973, scuba diving was a very different sport, but the spirit of camaraderie and adventure was exactly the same. From those very first pool sessions to our latest open-water excursions, Cardiff BSAC has been proud to offer world-class BSAC training.

Today, that tradition is as strong as ever. Almost every Wednesday evening, you can find us at Penarth Leisure Centre, where our dedicated instructors work with trainees to build confidence, teach essential safety skills, and perfect their buoyancy. Whether you are taking your very first breaths underwater or advancing your technical diving qualifications, our weekly pool sessions provide the perfect, supportive environment to learn.

A Thriving Community of Over 50 Active Divers

What truly makes Cardiff BSAC special isn’t just the history—it’s the people. We are incredibly proud to have a thriving, diverse membership of over 50 active divers.

For our members, diving isn’t just a hobby; it’s a weekly passion. From exploring the stunning, marine-life-rich waters around the Welsh coast to organising dive trips further afield, our club is bustling with activity. On any given weekend, our members are out there tracking down shipwrecks, diving through kelp forests, and enjoying the unique freedom that only scuba diving can provide.

Cheers to the Next 50 Years!

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been a part of the Cardiff BSAC family over the last 53 years. To our founding members, our past and present committees, our tireless instructors, and every single diver who has ever packed a kit bag with us—thank you. You are the reason our club continues to dive deep and dream big.

Here’s to the countless dives, the unforgettable marine encounters, and the lifelong friendships yet to come.

Want to join the adventure? If you’ve ever wanted to try scuba diving, or if you’re already qualified and looking for an active, welcoming club, we’d love to meet you! Come visit us on a Wednesday night at Penarth Leisure Centre and see what Cardiff BSAC is all about.
