About Cardiff BSAC

We are the Cardiff Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club. We currently use Penarth Leisure Centre every Wednesday at 8pm for pool training. Then we move over the road to The Coronation Club for a beer and a natter from 9pm.

You can also find us almost every Sunday at Cosmeston Lake, arriving around 9.30am for a 10am dive. Join us for a chat and a coffee, everyone welcome.

We’re a dive club, so let’s dive!

It’s one of our policies at Cardiff BSAC to encourage as many members as possible to do their bit and arrange club dives. After all, the more people we get organising dives the more varied and frequent they become. And that’s great news for everyone because it gives us all the chance to get more water time!

From Lanzarote to Lundy

Being a Cardiff BSAC member is your ticket to some great diving. For a start, there’s our Europe and Worldwide adventures. In the past, we’ve arranged club dives to Lanzarote, Malta, Gozo, and the Red Sea to name but a few; and we’re always looking forward and planning our next club dive expeditions.

We also arrange trips to dive locations all over the UK, including diving with seals off Lundy Island and the Farne Islands, exploring wrecks from hard boats sailing out of Plymouth harbour and Swanage Pier, and shore diving from Babbacombe beach, near Torquay, and Chessel beach, near Weymouth. These are just a few of our favourite dives, but there are so many more.

All aboard our Dive Boat

Closer to home, we are a frequent visitor to the west Wales coast with dives from Stackpole Quay, Broad Haven and Milford Haven always popular with our members.

Having a 6.5 metre RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) is a real asset for the club, and we’ve enjoyed many a day exploring wrecks off the west Wales coast. We never tire of diving The Dakotian wreck or the Adamantios J Pithis Wreck (fondly known in diving circles as The Greek) off Milford Haven, for example. There are 12 wrecks in the Haven alone, so we have long dive ‘to do’ list when it comes to West Wales. One thing’s for sure; our RHIB and our club’s coxswains are going to be busy carrying our dive buddies to these sites on future club dives.

Does everything freeze up in winter?

Most certainly not. As well as our shore, hard boat and RHIB dives, we also supplement these trips with inland water diving at lakes and quarries such as Vobster, Cromhall and Stoney Cove. Once winter weather conditions reduce our opportunities to put out to sea, we simply increase our diving at inland sites. At Cardiff BSAC, you can find a buddy to dive with you all year round – come rain or shine…. or frost! In fact our New Year Day dip at Cosmeston Lakes is a chilly highlight of our festive season for many members.

Cosmeston Sunday dips 12 months of the year

Don’t forget that we also meet at Cosmeston Lakes in Penarth, every Sunday for a dive. Just like the Sunday roast, the Cosmeston dip has become a Sunday tradition for us, and it’s great because if you decide to come along at the last minute, you know that someone from the club will be there for you to buddy up with.

During the Summer, we take advantage of the lighter evenings and congregate every Tuesday at Cosmeston for a pre-dusk dip.

Don’t miss out on our dives.
