A significant number of our more experienced divers have been trained the PADI way or learnt their skills with another organisation. And we’re confident that number will continue to grow because we are working hard to make our club as attractive as possible to accomplished divers looking for a new club. We’ve invested heavily in our Club Boat, for example, and the appeal of summer wreck dives is a big pull. We can also offer free Sunday dives at Cosmeston Lake with a friendly bunch of like-minded people. We have Penarth Pool booked every Wednesday for the exclusive use of our members. And we promise an exciting calendar of training programmes, dive trips, social get-togethers and community events. The efforts of our brilliant members who are pulling together and doing their bit to make us a more vibrant, active club is certainly paying off. There’s a real buzz about the club, and we have more members now than we’ve ever had in over fifty years! So come and join us and kick off an exciting diving journey with your new dive buddies.

Have your opportunities to dive dried up since you qualified?
If you trained with a PADI training school, or another organisation that makes their money from delivering scuba courses, then that often happens. They work to a continuous cycle of ‘Get them in. Train them up. Sign them off. And repeat’. And that’s totally understandable; they’re running a business after all.
But what it does mean is that qualified divers who finish their course can find themselves with no one to dive with, or learn from.
The good news is that we’ve been welcoming newly trained ‘cross-over’ divers into our club for years, and we’ve put a structure in place to make sure they feel at home right away.
We’ll assess your levels, and buddy you up with similar divers. We’ll also try and assign a more experienced diver to you who will become your mentor and be on hand to offer advice as your skills develop.
With so many accomplished divers around you, with decades of experience in the tank, you’ll also get loads of advice and mentoring support from other members to help you progress. That’s one advantage of being part of a club. Everyone’s there to help.
The other advantage, of course, is that we can promise you plenty of opportunities to get in the water. Our dive calendar is always nice and busy with planned trips.
