Scuba Diver Training with Cardiff BSAC

Having successfully completed your Ocean Diver training with Cardiff BSAC, it's time to start thinking about improving your diving skills and working towards your BSAC Sports Diver qualification. Diving in the Red Sea with Cardiff BSAC

BSAC Sports Diver

The Sports Diver course consists of:
  • Six theory lessons
  • A theory assessment
  • One lesson in sheltered water
  • An optional refresher/orientation dive
  • Five sessions in open water
  • One dry practice lesson
  • Experience of five different diving conditions, during a minimum in water time of 150 mins, since gaining the Ocean Diver qualification
When you have successfully completed the course and obtained your BSAC Sports Diver qualification, you will be able to dive up to a maximum depth of 35m with other Sports Divers, or those of higher grades.

BSAC Dive Leader

Successfully completing a Dive Leader course will further improve your diving skills and extend your lifesaving abilities. This qualification will allow you to dive to a maximum depth of 50m. You will now be considered a fully capable diver in your own right, and be able to lead less experienced divers.

BSAC Advanced Diver

BSAC Advanced Diver training will teach you the skills needed to perform longer and more strenuous dives. It will also teach you some of the more specialist skills involved in the sport, such as running branch diving trips.

BSAC First Class Diver

This is the highest diving grade awarded by BSAC, and requires a higher than average level of theoretical knowledge, organizational and personal diving skills. Suitably experienced candidates are assessed through nationally conducted examinations.

Other Training Opportunities

During your training with Cardiff BSAC you will also be able to undertake specialist skill development courses, such as:
  • Training as a rescue specialist
  • Training to use breathing gases other than air
  • Training in boat handling to drive the club rib
At some stage you might even like to think about putting something back into the club, and consider taking up the challenge of becoming a diving Instructor.
